Counselling

Why have counselling?

People seek counselling for a variety of reasons. There may be an event you can pinpoint, or you may feel a sense of un-ease or un-balance. You may be feeling anxiety and unhappiness.

There are many ways in which counsellors work. But human beings are all different and therefore the therapy is tailored to you and led by you. Never think that you are beyond help or support as there will be a way to move forward and at a pace that feels right for you.

Some of the reasons people seek counselling are listed here but this list is by no means complete as there are many variations.

  • Family and relationship difficulties

  • Coping with loss be it from bereavement, separation, loss of job, illness or other major life-changing circumstances

  • Stress - general or work-related

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Lack of self-esteem or self-belief

  • Post natal depression

  • Issues around sexuality

  • Bullying

What to expect?

Many people are nervous or anxious about coming for counselling so don’t feel alone in that.

Counselling gives you an opportunity to learn more about yourself by exploring and understanding the feelings evoked by whatever is going on in your life. Family and friends can be helpful, but they can also be too close to a situation or issue and therefore talking the situation through with someone who is impartial and unconnected can be helpful.

Counselling can be a rewarding and life-changing experience. The benefits are often different for different people, but I always feel privileged to be allowed to accompany someone on this unique and valuable journey.
